Make a Difference this Holiday Season
The holiday season is upon us – a time well spent with family and friends. It’s a time to respectfully look back at the year behind us and excitedly ahead to the year in front of us. Let’s also consider that the holiday season is a time to help make our world a better place and to leave it just a little bit better than we found it. An article on www.inc.com entitled “How to Help Others in Your Community This Holiday Season” offers insight into easy ways to make a difference in your community. And as author John Hall reminds us, you don’t need to be a billionaire philanthropist to make a difference. Here are a few of his ideas:
Volunteer Your Time. Check with your local food bank, animal shelter, community resource center, etc. Many community organizations are allowing volunteer work to resume in the midst of the on-going pandemic. Even a few hours volunteered on a Saturday can make a tremendous difference.
Donate to Community Causes. Examples include donating blood at the local Red Cross, contributing monetarily to your church collection, or leaving newly-purchased toys at your local Toys for Tots collection center. Consider dropping off a bag of dog food at an animal shelter or donating cleaning supplies or toiletries to a homeless shelter.
Provide a Drive-Thru Surprise. The next time you’re waiting in line for your food or drink order, consider paying for the person behind you. This random act of kindness may not seem like much, but it has the potential to send a ripple effect of kindness throughout your community.
