What is Aftercare?
The term “aftercare” is used within the funeral profession to refer to the continued support and guidance received in the days, weeks, and months following the death of a loved one. Our assistance does not immediately come to an end following the funeral or memorial service – we continue to help and guide you in a number of ways.
The passing of a loved one is a stressful time, and after a death occurs there are many details that require attention. Some of these details may include:
- Claiming life insurance benefits
- Filing for social security benefits
- Updating pensions or retirement benefits
- Updating names and beneficiaries on financial accounts
- Changing names on titled assets
- Updating wills and trusts
In an effort to provide continued assistance to each family we are privileged to serve, we have created a helpful Aftercare Checklist. We have organized this checklist to prioritize what needs to be completed in the first few days and weeks following the death, as well as items that can be accomplished in later months.
We are here to help guide you through this process and offer our guidance and support. We also make referrals for other trusted professionals, such as attorneys, financial advisors, and grief counselors. We’ll help you find the best resources for your individual circumstances.
During the aftercare process, many people choose to place their own final wishes in writing. Creating a concrete plan for what is ahead will provide peace of mind knowing your wishes will be honored and the burden of making difficult decisions will not be on the shoulders of your loved ones. We’re here to help you select the options that are right for you and your family.
